Lagos High Court Hands Down Life Sentence to Bishop Feyiropo Daniels for Raping Church Member, Registers Name in Sexual Offenders Register

In a landmark verdict, the Lagos High Court has handed down a life sentence to Bishop Feyiropo Daniels, founder of 1 Reign Christian Ministry, for the egregious crime of rape, alongside an additional 3-year imprisonment for sexual assault.

The trial judge, Rahman Oshodi, delivered the verdict, ensuring both sentences were to be served concurrently. Furthermore, Bishop Daniels’ name will be registered in the Sexual Offenders Register maintained by Lagos State, marking a significant step in the fight against sexual violence.

The conviction stems from a harrowing case brought forth by a 23-year-old assistant pastor who bravely testified against the accused. She recounted the traumatic experiences of being raped twice by Bishop Daniels, whom she regarded as her spiritual father. These despicable acts occurred at his residence in Ikota Villa Estate, Lekki, Lagos State, following a church program in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

The trial, which commenced on April 17, 2023, saw Bishop Daniels pleading not guilty to three amended counts bordering on rape and sexual assault. Led in evidence by the Lagos State counsel, Mr. Babajide Boye, the assistant pastor, provided compelling testimony, shedding light on the heinous acts perpetrated by the accused.
