Tijani Adeyemi, a Senate correspondent for the Tribune Newspapers, tragically passed away on Wednesday due to cardiac arrest while travelling in one of the National Assembly shuttle buses. He boarded the shuttle at the main gate, Mopol Gate, at approximately 10 a.m. However, when he reached the checkpoint, it was discovered that he had become lifeless.

He was subsequently rushed to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation clinic, where he was pronounced dead. Following these events, Adeyemi’s body was held at the National Assembly’s clinic and later laid to rest at the Gudu Cemetery by Islamic rites.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the late Adeyemi’s widow, Alhaja Mamunat Adeyemi, the Senate President conveyed his condolences and shared fond memories of the late journalist. He mentioned that although they were not close, he had heard that Adeyemi was known for his peaceful and gentle demeanour in all his interactions. Senator Akpabio also praised Adeyemi’s diligent and dedicated work as a journalist, particularly in legislative reporting.

He highlighted Adeyemi’s significant contribution to the National Assembly Press Corps and called him the “doyen of the National Assembly Press Corps.” Senator Akpabio acknowledged Adeyemi’s extensive experience covering the Fourth National Assembly since its inception. He concluded the letter by extending prayers for the repose of Adeyemi’s soul in Aljannah Firdaus and offering his support and comfort to the widow and her four children.

Senator Akpabio’s sympathy and appreciation for Tijani Adeyemi’s contributions to journalism is a testament to the respect and regard held for the late journalist within the National Assembly and the broader media community.
