During the endowment launch ceremony organized by Igbo lawyers under the banner of Otu Oka-in Abuja, NBA President Yakubu Maikyau expressed his strong support for the initiative. He commended the Igbo lawyers for their vision and described the ‘Igbaboi’ scheme as an exemplary approach to imparting skills, character, and knowledge.

The endowment fund represents a lasting project aimed at replicating the remarkable success of Ndigbo in business within the legal field. It seeks to institutionalize mentorship and career development opportunities for young lawyers.

Distinguished guests graced the event, including former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Kanu Agabi, Senator Ben Obi representing Anambra Central, and prominent Igbo senior lawyers.

President Maikyau declared the NBA’s backing for the ‘Igbaboi’ initiative and envisioned its expansion into a nationwide mentorship policy endorsed by the Federal Government. Also Read: https://legalattorneyblog.com/2023/09/06/empowering-young-lawyers-the-birth-of-an-endowment/

He says, “If you are the best of lawyers without character, there is no way that intellect will transfer or translate into value. So, this is a mentorship model. Like I said, it is welcomed into our fold as lawyers, but please, let us not limit it to the Igbo.

We should extend it to others. We should take it to the North and West because this is something that is going to bring benefit to each and every one of us.”

President Maikyau underscored that the NBA fully supports this initiative and pledged to make recommendations to transform it into a national mentorship policy endorsed by the Federal Government.
