In a press release issued by the NDPC’s Head of Media, Itunu Dosekun, it was announced that the committee’s leadership would be entrusted to Mr Babatunde Bamigboye, who serves as the Head of Legal, Enforcement, and Regulations at the commission.

The primary objectives of this committee encompass a range of critical tasks, including providing guidance on the technical and organizational measures that data controllers and data processors must undertake to safeguard data subjects’ privacy, ensure data security, and uphold data sovereignty.

Additionally, the GAID is set to offer clarity on key definitions and concepts, including but not limited to Child Consent, Data Subjects’ Rights, Lawful Basis of Data Processing, and the Registration of Data Controllers and Data Processors. Moreover, it will address issues related to Cross Border Data Transfers, among other pertinent matters.

Comprising eight dedicated members, the committee will be chaired by Mr. Babigboye, with Tokunbo Smith from the Association of Licensed Data Protection Organisations of Nigeria serving as the co-chair and Ms. Hauwa Hadejia assuming the role of secretary. The remaining committee members include Ozoemena Nwogbo, Gbenga Sesan, David Daser, Femi Daniels, and Ifeoma Peters.

This initiative reflects the NDPC’s commitment to fostering data protection compliance and regulatory clarity within the Nigerian landscape, ultimately safeguarding individuals’ privacy rights and data integrity.
