NBA Medical Outreach Mission: A Memorable Experience with the NBA National Welfare Committee.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Welfare Committee: A Valuable Experience

I had the privilege of serving as a two-time member of the NBA Welfare Committee, a distinguished standing committee within the NBA. My appointments came under the leadership of the exceptional President Olu Akpata, and we were fortunate to be guided by the capable Y. C Maikyau, OON, SAN.

Under President Y. C Maikyau’s leadership, the Welfare Committee comprised a group of remarkable individuals, and we were fortunate to have the erudite silk, Emeka Ozoani, as our committee chairman.

Our committee was entrusted by the NBA with a significant responsibility – overseeing the Medical Outreach program sponsored by the Kebbi State Government in partnership with the Mose Lake Medical Team and Garki Hospital.

The medical committee members dedicated their time, efforts, and resources to ensure the success of the medical outreach during the 2023 NBA Annual General Conference (AGC). Over 11 days, we tirelessly served an average of 300-500 individuals daily.

Members of the welfare committee played a crucial role in liaising with the public, lawyers, and indigent individuals to facilitate crowd control and organization.

What truly made this experience remarkable was the exceptional teamwork within the welfare committee. Chief Emeka Ozoani, SAN, set an inspiring example by actively participating, even rolling up his sleeves to contribute.

Our most excellent satisfaction was witnessing the happiness and smiles on people’s faces. The impact of our efforts reached far and wide, and despite temporarily setting aside our personal lives, jobs, and families to serve the NBA and the public, the welfare committee emerged not only united but as a cohesive and efficient team.

Would I do it all over again? Absolutely!
