All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Department of State Services (DSS) and the police to investigate allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it sponsored the foiled plot to attack the residence of its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, in Yola.
Describing it as irresponsible, it said the fresh allegation is a continuation of the opposition party’s “vacuous and mindless campaign of calumny” against the governing Party.
It recalled PDP’s allegation last weekend that the APC was engaged in a plot to intimidate judiciary members seeking to influence the outcome of pending cases before the Presidential Election Petitions Courts, saying the opposition party cannot continue to bandy allegations without justification.
In a statement issued by its national publicity secretary, Felix Morka, the APC stated: “Spewing lies and prattle has become the PDP’s compulsive focus following its crushing defeat in the last Presidential Election.
This strange and senseless allegation comes only days after the same badly ailing Party alleged, without substantiation, that APC was engaged in a plot to intimidate judiciary members seeking to influence the outcome of pending cases before the Election Petitions Courts.
“It is downright irresponsible for the PDP to continuously politicize serious matters of security and national importance for its vain and macabre humour. As an age-old Party, this ceaseless display of egregious incivility in its affairs is disgraceful and sad.”
Calling on the DSS and Police to probe PDP’s allegation, the APC said, “Acts of terror or involvement in a terrorist plot are blatant crimes under the law, and the PDP cannot continue to bandy allegations around without justification.
Atiku Abubakar is a citizen of Nigeria and deserves the most protection of the law.
“Our law enforcement authorities must protect and investigate any threat to his person, family or assets and prosecute offenders.
APC Demands Probe Of Alleged Foiled Attack On Atiku.
“However, Atiku Abubakar’s PDP cannot continue to peddle criminal blackmail and wicked falsehoods in the name of opposition politics, unrestrained and without accountability.
“We call on the Police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant security services to investigate the PDP’s wild and bogus allegations, invite the PDP’s leadership to substantiate these claims and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
Morka said while Nigerians had roundly rejected the PDP at the 2023 polls, the Party has chosen to busy itself with swimming in an abysmal pool of lies and mischief instead of “engaging in some introspection and give the court the time to deliver a verdict in the case they have brought challenging the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“While vigorously defending our legitimate and popular election mandate in court, our Party will continue to win the hearts and minds of Nigerians through President Tinubu’s strategic program of social and economic development designed to improve the living conditions of our people,” Morka said.
