As they say, it is better late than never; the BON awards ceremony finally became a reality and presented a unique opportunity to showcase the enormous talents in the nation’s broadcast industry.

For the FRCN, where it all started, the occasion was another harvest opportunity as the Corporation went home with several awards, honours and recognitions.

Impressed with the outcome, the Director-General of FRCN, Dr Mansur Liman, congratulated all who made the Corporation proud, just as he challenged other staff members to do their utmost best to maintain the high standards Radio Nigeria is known for.

He said, “This award ceremony is significant and encouraging. It is one of the promises made by the current leadership of the Broadcasting Organizations of Nigeria. It will motivate people who are working. They look forward to this every year so that they can be recognized.

“I am very much delighted that the industry has recognized the contribution of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria to Radio development in Nigeria. This is natural because if you look at most of the radio stations in this country, there is hardly any radio station without someone trained in Radio Nigeria’s standards, either directly or indirectly. So this is an award that I think we deserve”.

On his part, the Secretary Legal, FRCN, Dr Andah David Angbazo, who also congratulated the award recipients, noted that the awards, recognitions and nominations did not come as a surprise, as Radio Nigeria remained the flagship of broadcasting in Nigeria.

“I won’t be surprised because Radio Nigeria is still a leader in this field.

“Radio Nigeria is still one of the few organizations that train and retain their staff. It is still among the few organizations with a vast platform for trading.

“The Corporation occupies a significant percentage of the broadcast market in Nigeria. In many states, we own at least one station and in some states, multiple stations. And in total, about 40 stations. So we have a huge platform professionals can really show their professionalism.”

Also reacting, the Director FRCN, Lagos Operations, Mrs Bolanle Owoyemi, expressed joy that the Corporation gave a good account of itself with several awards and nominations.

Mrs Owoyemi pledged the commitment of her management to staff training to preserve the tradition of broadcast excellence in the country.

“It is a good one for BON . It is a good starting point”.

“The event is well organized. I must tell FRCN staff members to be at their best”.

The colourful event was attended by dignitaries, including the representative of the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and some other Directors of the FRCN.
