NHRC Kano receives complaints about gender issues.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the Kano office, says it has received no fewer than 351 complaints of alleged human rights violations from January to March 2023.

The state Coordinator of NHRC, Alhaji Shehu Abdullahi, notified newsmen in Kano. He explained that 240 out of the 351 cases had been treated, while 111 were pending.

Shehu Abdullahi highlighted that 243 cases bordered on women and gender issues, 58 on civil and political rights, unlawful arrest and detention.

The coordinator stressed that 30 cases received during the period under review were on the abandonment of family responsibilities, domestic violence and rape.

“The remaining 20 cases are on access to children and labour rights, among others,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that the commission also mediated marital matters between couples and families.

Shehu Abdullahi urged couples to be more patient with one another to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.
