Governor Obaseki Shamelessly Displays Desperation: Edo State

After trying unsuccessfully to upturn the election results from OREDO East and West Constituencies, with the heavy financial inducement of voters and election umpires (INEC), intimidation of voters and APC Party Agents, Governor Godwin Obaseki finally bares his fangs.

Oredo city centre has been turned into a theatre of war of sorts as Gov. Obaseki, stemming from his desperation and the loss at the polls staring him in the face, unleashed terror on the people of OREDO as the House of Assembly election results in collation stalls, with the results carted away by Godwin Obaseki thugs under the supervision of Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, Chief of Staff to Godwin Obaseki.

Earlier in the day, evidence of violence was recorded in several polling units. For example, ballots were snatched as counting occurred while the security personnel attached to the polling centres looked away.

In addition, we recorded intimidation of voters and the APC Party Agents at various polling units, who, at some centres, were forced to sign form EC8A for an election yet to be concluded and, after that, driven away from the polling units.

The information available to us showed that APC party agents across the 2 constituencies were molested and hounded out of the polling units to allow for Obaseki to cohort with the DDS agents and INEC officials, perfect their rigging plans to manipulate the results of many of the team, especially in the Oredo East constituency after the DSS and INEC official was rumoured to have been compromised by Governor Obaseki.

Having failed in all his bid to upturn the results, Obaseki finally lost his cool as he, through his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, invaded the Collation centre at Urhokpota Hall, shooting sporadically, and carted away all the results from the units across the constituency in the presence of the DSS and Police personnel, the reason we believe this security personnel are complicit in all these.

Meanwhile, it is alleged that fictitious results have been uploaded to the INEC Server during the collation of results are incomplete. Therefore, we are calling on our responsible agencies to immediately act on this, cancel all the results of OREDO EAST and WEST, and arrest the perpetrators of this “rape of our democracy”.
