Godwin Emefiele, the CBN Governor, said this when he received Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

INEC Chairman Professor Mahmood Yakubu stated this yesterday in Abuja during the pre-planning tour

of the International Conference Centre, the venue of the Collation of results for the forthcoming election.

He said that the CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, had assured the Commission that they would give

them all the support it needed to conduct successful polls.

CBN Assures INEC that Cash Crunch Won’t Frustrate Elections

“We visited the CBN last week on the issue of cash for payment of some of the services, not all that we

will engage on Election day. Most of the payment is made by the Commission through

electronic transfer, but there are certain critical services that we have to remunerate by cash, which is

why we went to CBN”. Professor Yakubu said that the CBN had assured the Commission that they would

not suffer encumbrances.

After the tour of the International Conference Centre professor, Yakubu said that three activities would take

place the Media Centre, INEC Situation Room and the main hall where Collation and results announcements

would be made.

He said that the Presidential Candidates of various parties would sign a peace accord within the week.

On the reported protests in parts of the country, Professor Yakubu said they are working with various

security agencies to safely guide lives and properties.
