NBA PRESIDENT SPEAKS ON AKEREDOLU

GOOD AFTERNOON, Mr. President. We have come to pay condolence to the Nigerian Bar Association on the death of your successor, Akeredolu, who passed on recently, and your memories shared together with the late Akeredolu during his lifetime. I appreciate your condolences over the demise of our colleague, the past president of the NBA, his excellency Akeredolu, who passed unto glory on the 27th of December, 2023. It was a significant loss not only to the legal profession but to Nigeria when the legal profession and the country were in dire need of him. It was inappropriate for us to lose Akerodolu. he was a courageous and bold leader. He has always been consistent with how he conducted himself as a member of the legal profession and a leader in the larger society. It has happened, and we have to take it in good faith. Because we never planned for these things to happen. Akerodolu remains one of those leaders of the bar who has given his best to the legal profession and the nation. We will always look up to him as a guide and direction. He was the president of the Nigerian Bar Association from 2008-2010. I can say without fear or contradiction that Akeredolu was one of the most influential, courageous and bold presidents the NBA ever had. He worked. I say this of our past leaders also because Akeredolu was actually the one that stood out in that position, so it’s such a massive loss to all of us. He has served in different bodies of the Nigerian Bar Association, this is just to mention his consistency in work and sacrifices for the Nigerian Bar Association. he was a one-time secretary of his state branch of the NBA, he was the vice chairman of the Ibadan branch of the NBA, he also served as the Attorney General Of Ondo state. These are very few platforms upon which he has served this country. He was a two-term governor, and he was still serving in his second term when we lost him. We will remember him for his contributions. Something that stood out in the course of his surgeon as the governor of ondo state was the issue of insecurity that we are still faced with in this country. he was the one that came out forcefully to argue for the local security outfit that will man the security of his state and likewise the entire western region of this country, Which gave birth to what we have today as amotekun. Amotekun is security outfit, he maintained his position and today Amotekun has turned out to be a model of such a security outfit as it has gained so much recognition in the west. i recalled in the last Annuakl general conference of the nigerian bar association in 2023, which was themed around, security, economy, and administration, we brought the body incarge of the amotekun fro ondo state after he spoke about the successes recorded by the amotekun in the state and also the entire western region, I recalled that the emir of gumi, who is from zamfara state
