In a decisive victory, Governor Duoye Diri, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, has emerged victorious in the Bayelsa State Governorship Election, securing his re-election. The electoral process culminated with the announcement of results from the last local government, Southern Ijaw.
Governor Diri won in six local government areas, solidifying his position for another term. His closest contender, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured victories in two local government areas.
As the results from Southern Ijaw were declared, Governor Diri’s lead over Timipre Sylva extended to 65,088 votes. Diri garnered a total of 175,196 votes, while Sylva trailed with 110,108 votes.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are in the final stages of the collation process at the centre in Yenagoa, the state capital. The official announcement of the result is imminent, marking Governor Duoye Diri’s successful bid for re-election.
This victory not only reaffirms the mandate given to Governor Diri by the people of Bayelsa but also reflects the outcome of a keenly contested election with significant implications for the political landscape in the state.
