PDP Secures Victory in 11 States in Governorship Tribunal, APC Triumphs in 10, LP in 1

In the aftermath of the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal rulings on the March 18 governorship elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has clinched victory in 11 states, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in 10, with the Labour Party (LP) securing 1 state.

For the APC, the states where they emerged triumphant are Gombe, Cross River, Benue, Lagos, Kano, Ogun, Ebonyi, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

In Gombe, the tribunal upheld Muhammadu Yahaya’s re-election as the state’s governor, dismissing petitions from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Jibrin Barde, and the African Democratic Congress.

Similarly, the Calabar, Cross River State tribunal affirmed Senator Bassey Otu as the governor and Peter Odey as the deputy governor, dismissing Prof. Sandy Onor’s petition.

In Benue, the tribunal dismissed the PDP candidate’s petition against the election of Hyacinth Alia of the APC, stating that the allegation of forgery against the governor should have been addressed as a pre-election dispute.

In Lagos, the victory of Babajide Sanwo-Olu was upheld, while Olajide Adediran’s and Rhodes-Vivour’s petitions were dismissed.

In Kano, the tribunal declared Nasiru Gawuna of the APC as the winner of the March 18 poll, prompting an appeal by the incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf.

Governor Dapo Abiodun’s victory in the March 18 governorship contest was affirmed in Ogun, with petitions by the PDP’s Ladi Adebutu being dismissed.

The Ebonyi State tribunal dismissed Bernard Odoh’s petition and affirmed Francis Nwifuru as governor.

Kaduna State’s tribunal upheld the victory of Uba Sani and ruled against the PDP and its candidate, Isah Ashiru.

Similarly, the Sokoto State tribunal affirmed Ahmed Aliyu’s election as governor.

In Birnin Kebbi, the tribunal reaffirmed Nasir Idris as the duly elected governor of Kebbi State, dismissing the PDP’s application challenging the election.

On the PDP’s side, victories have been secured in Plateau, Zamfara, Bauchi, Enugu, Nasarawa, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Taraba, Oyo, Adamawa, and Rivers.

In Abia, Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party had his election affirmed, with petitions from the PDP, APC, and Young Progressives Party dismissed.

To date, state tribunals have rendered judgments in 22 states, while six states are awaiting tribunal verdicts, namely Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kwara, Niger, and Yobe.
