President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dissolved the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs,

It was learned that the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) still functions, and the Ministry of the Niger Delta was abolished to avoid duplication of effort.

All duties formerly performed by the disbanded Ministry have reportedly been transferred to the NDDC, according to sources who allegedly spoke to SaharaReporters about the development.

The Ministry of the Niger Delta has been abolished by Tinubu. It appears they are duplicating efforts because the Niger Delta Development Commission also exists. Now, according to one of the sources, all projects carried out by the Ministry of the Niger Delta will be transferred to the NDDC.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing the Abia North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, requested President Tinubu abolish the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs just three months ago.

He claimed that when the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is strengthened, it can take on all of the Ministry’s duties, so its existence is unnecessary. Naija News reported this.

Nowhere in the Act does the NDDC report to the Ministry; instead, it reports directly to the President, according to what Naija News recalls Kalu saying when answering questions from pressmen in Abuja.

He said, “It was a beautiful transition. I’m excited that Nigeria is transiting from one civilian to another without rancour. I’m expecting Tinubu to look into all the abandoned projects like the Ajaokuta Steel mill and Jo’s rolling mills. These are the source of our debts. Abandoned projects are what is taking out debt servicing.

Second, I would like Tinubu to take action on security and some parastatals and ministries that are no longer viable, like the Ministry of Nigeria Delta. We have the NDDC, just like the North East Development Commission, so the Ministry of Niger Delta should be abolished, and the NDDC should be repositioned to report directly to the President as required by law. The Act does not mention NDDC reporting to the Ministry of Nigeria Delta.

They ought to permit the commission to operate solely as a commission.

President Tinubu reportedly released a list of his ministers and their responsibilities on Wednesday, August 16, according to Gistlover.

Additionally, the President changed the names of some existing ministries while creating new ones. These new ministries include the Ministries of Environment and Ecological Management, Marine and Blue Economy, Health and Social Welfare, Aviation and Aerospace Development, and Gas Resources.
