DSS AND THE NIGERIAN PRISON FACE OFF ON WHO TAKES CUSTODY OF EMEFIELE.

Officials of the Department of State Services, DSS, and their counterpart in the Nigeria Correctional Center, created a scene at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday.

The fight between the duo followed the court’s decision which earlier ordered that the suspended Governor of the Central Bank, CBN, be remanded until he fulfils his bail requirements.

Heavily armed Department of State Services, DSS, officials engaged in a free-for-all with Nigeria Correctional Services, NCS, officials over custody of the suspended former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Godwin Emefiele.

An unidentified highly-ranking NCS has been seriously beaten up and arrested by DSS officials, who have mobilised more men to counter the attempt by prison authorities to take Emefiele into custody.

Recall that the court granted Emefiele bail but ordered the Nigeria Correctional Service to keep the suspended CBN Governor in their custody pending the perfection of his bail.

However, Sensing that the DSS operatives planned to rearrest Emefiele,  the Nigeria Correctional Service decided to weigh in, insisting that the court order expressly ordered them to have custody of Emefiele. Things got out of hand, and the two agencies started exchanging blows.

Meanwhile, Emefiele’s lawyers are still seated in the court while the judge is trying to prevail on the DSS to allow the defendant to perfect his bail terms instead of re-arresting him.
