The National Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, has described the supporters of the Labour Party as jokers for thinking that the 2023 presidential election tribunal will order a rerun election.

Omisore stated this on Tuesday when he was featured on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

The embattled National Chairman of the Labour Party, Mr Julius Abure, had urged party members to prepare for a presidential rerun.

According to him, he had information that the APC was already doing so.

Labour Party, Peoples Democratic Party and their candidates who lost in the 2023 presidential election to Bola Tinubu of the APC, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, respectively, are challenging Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja.

SaharaReporters had reported that Abure, during an online meeting held with Nigerian-American Coalition for Justice and Democracy, led by Prof Eddie Oparaoji, the Labour Party Diaspora Chairman in the United States, in Abuja on Monday, informed his party’s members and loyalists about the alleged preparation by the ruling APC for the rerun election.

The acting National Publicity Secretary of the party, Obiora Ifoh, in a statement, quoted Abure as calling on the members of the party to be “on the alert and get ready to further humiliate APC and its government in the polls if their sinister plot fails to materialise.”

Reacting to this, Omisore was quoted by Channel TV as saying: “There’s a way Labour Party deceives their followership. They use the false court of instance.

“The person that came third said they were going for a rerun. How does he know that the court will give a rerun? So the Labour Party is now judging the tribunal? They are jokers.

“Most politicians are incurable optimists. Even from ground zero, they want to make 100 per cent.

“So, these are just wishful thoughts from the Labour Party. As far as I am concerned, they are jokers; they are nothing to worry about.”

The APC secretary also debunked the report that his party had started preparing for a rerun election.

He said, “There can’t be any rerun because it was a clear win.

“The Labour Party defeating Bola Tinubu in Lagos is the beauty of democracy and anshows that election’s sanctity. It shows the party’s neutrality and the evidential reason APC won across the board.”
