NEMA evacuates stranded Nigerians back home: Sudan
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA says it is in constant communication with all relevant stakeholders, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission and security agencies while seeking an appropriate window of opportunity to evacuate all stranded Nigerians back home from that county in a safe and dignified manner.
In a statement, the Director General of NEMA, Mustapha Ahmed, notes that the current emergency situation in Sudan is very complex, with fighting between warring factions going on and all airports and land borders closed.
He explains that NEMA is working assiduously with all its partners and is constantly compiling updated information on the situation.
To this end, a committee comprising professional emergency responders and search and rescue experts have been set up to evaluate the situation and seek the safest way to evacuate the Nigerian citizens, even via a country neighbouring Sudan.
The Director General of NEMA assures that the agency is very concerned about the situation. It is working on all possible options for bringing the stranded Nigerians back home to their loved ones safely and dignifiedly.
