A peasant farmer, Mr Adewumi Babatunde, has been kidnapped on his way from his farm in Omu-Ekiti, Oye, Local government. Mr Babatunde was abducted yesterday afternoon between Omu and Ayede-Ekiti.
Confirming the incident with Progress FM on a telephone call, the victim’s wife, Mrs Bosede Babatunde, said the kidnappers had contacted the family and demanded three million naira ransom.
Also, the Owajumu of Omu-Ekiti, Oba Adeyeye Ogundeyi, who lamented the incessant kidnapping of indigenes, especially farmers in the area, urged the government to provide watertight security in Omu-Ijelu-Ayede Road.
When contacted, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, said he had not been briefed on the matter and promised to find out.
