The minister of aviation, Senator Hadi Strike, has promised that no job will be lost when the concessions of four international airports take effect. The airports, including Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt, will be run by private investors but owned by the government.

The aviation minister, who made the statement at an aviation stakeholders forum in Abuja, said negotiation with preferred bidders on the concession deal was on, with approval of the Full Business Case by the Federal Executive Council still being awaited.

He added that the National Carrier, Air Nigeria, will become operational before May 29 as negotiations with Ethiopian Airlines, the preferred bidders, and the Federal Government were ongoing.

Senator Hadi Sirika said the majority of the aviation road map designed in the wake of this administration had reached 90 per cent implementation and prayed that the tempo would be sustained by subsequent administrations.

The aviation road map drawn in 2016 to revamp the sector and profit from the enormous benefits therein has seen, among other achievements, the Civil Aviation Act, the improved business environment for operators, the training and hiring of Nigerian pilots and the development of Cargo/Agro-Allied Airport Terminals.
