ECOWAS Election Observation Mission arrives in Nigeria.

The Head of the ECOWAS Election Observation Mission (ECOWAS – EOM) to the Presidential Election

in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma, former President of the Republic of Sierra

Leone arrives in Abuja ahead of the February 25^th Elections.

While welcoming President Koroma, the President of the ECOWAS commission Dr Omar Alieu Touray,

stressed that ECOWAS was firmly committed to supporting peaceful elections and good governance in

the Sub-Region.

Koroma Leads ECOWAS Election Observation Mission to Nigeria.

President Koroma, in his statement, assured the President of the ECOWAS commission that the confidence

imposed on him would be taken with all sense of responsibility. He maintained that the outcome of the elections

should be acceptable and reflect the will of the Nigerian people, adding that it would go a long way in sending

a strong signal to countries conducting elections within the Region to adhere to democracy and good governance.

Amid widespread apprehension and crises occasioned by the new Naira redesign policy and insinuations

that it was a ploy to prevent vote-buying, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday

declared that it had concluded plans to conduct the general elections beginning next Saturday, February 25th.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies have promised to play their roles in

ensuring that the 2023 General election will be peaceful and credible. Similarly, the Nigeria Police,

military high commands, other security agencies and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) all

reassured Nigerians of their readiness to supervise and ensure a peaceful 2023 elections.
