Bandits Kill Two, Abducts Others: Minna.
Two persons have been killed, and an unspecified number of travellers abducted by gunmen on
election eve in Niger state.
Therefore, this implied that the passengers abducted at Tashar Amale in Rafi Local Government
Council may not be able to exercise their franchise in the presidential and National Assembly
elections throughout the country today.
They were also said to have shot sporadically at some Muslim faithful observing Jumaat prayers
in the area, forcing many of them to take to their heels for fear of being killed.

Similarly, the bandits have burnt a canter conveying the travellers comprising men, women and
children and, after that, seized to an unknown destination.
Secretary to the Niger State Government Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who confirmed the incident,
said they were yet to confirm the number of people abducted by the bandits when filling in this
report.
Also, speaking in a telephone interview INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in charge of Niger
state Alh Ahmed Yusha’u Garki said all necessary arrangements have been concluded for the
conduct of this Saturday’s general elections.
He further said they have already taken delivery of all electoral materials to all the twenty-five
local government councils in Niger state, including some few local governments affected by
insurgency for the conduct of free, fair, and credible elections.

Most people interviewed wondered why the bandits came out in large numbers carrying
dangerous weapons on the eve of the election after a long absence and call on the Niger
state government and relevant bodies to come to their aid.
