NPC To Collaborate With The Media To Ensure Success Of the 2023 Census

The National Population Commission (NPC ) says it will collaborate with all stakeholders in the media to ensure adequate dissemination of information and remove misconceptions concerning the 2023 population and housing Census exercise.

The National Population Commission (NPC) Federal Commissioner in Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulrasak Gidado, stated this while opening a one-day state capacity building workshop for members of the state Publicity Committee for the 2023 population and housing Census organized by the National Population Commission in Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to him, the aim of the training is to ensure broad-based national support and cooperation for the implementation of the activities of the National Population Commission.

Alhaji Gidado said the training will also help equip media members with the necessary knowledge and skills to educate people at the grassroots on the importance of the 2023 population and housing Census.

He enjoined participants to familiarise themselves with the technical processes of the conduct of the 2023 Census and other activities of the Commission to forge the much-needed national consensus and handle any bias or prejudice arising from the outcome of the exercise.

In his excellent will message, the Director of the National Orientation Agency( NOA) Kwara State Directorate, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, said the capacity building would enable the participants to enlighten the people on the forthcoming census exercise and change the narrative where there is a misrepresentation.

In their separate remarks,  the Council of Ulama and Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) representatives in Kwara State, Professor Hamzat Abdulraheem and Barrister Shina Ibiyemi, expressed their readiness to carry the message of Census to those concerned.

Earlier in his address, the Deputy governor of Kwara state, Mr Kayode Alabi, represented by the state commissioner for communication, Abubakar Buhari, urged the participants to use the training acquired to ensure the success of the 2023 population and housing census.
