CBN Special Investigator Jim Obazee Submits Interim Report to President Tinubu

Jim Obazee, the appointed Special Investigator tasked with scrutinizing the operations of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has reportedly delivered an interim report to President Bola Tinubu.

This appointment came in response to President Tinubu’s directive on July 28, 2023, appointing Jim Obazee, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria, to spearhead an investigation into the activities of the CBN under the leadership of its suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele.

President Tinubu Employs Special Investigator to Probe CBN.

In a letter signed by President Tinubu, the move was framed as a continuation of the government’s relentless anti-corruption campaign, urging Obazee to collaborate with relevant security and anti-corruption agencies to fulfil the task.

In addition to scrutinizing the CBN, Obazee’s investigative efforts extend to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) and other Government Business Entities. He is assembling a proficient and capable team for this purpose.

Nevertheless, sources within the presidency, speaking anonymously to The Punch, have disclosed that the interim report has been submitted for the President’s consideration.

The preliminary findings have already led to a change in leadership at the CBN and are expected to contribute to critical decisions that will propel the country forward.

The officials further revealed that President Tinubu and his team are reviewing the report to make appropriate decisions shortly.
