The National Data Protection Bill Will Generate Over 500,000 Jobs

The Nigeria Data Protection Bureau (NDPB) says Nigerians need to leverage opportunities that abound in the data protection ecosystem.

The Federal Government enunciates that the National Data Protection Bill recently passed by the National Assembly and awaiting assent by the President has the potential to generate over 500,000 jobs.

The National Commissioner of the National Data Protection Bureau, Dr Vincent Olatunji, stated this while addressing the opening of a Workshop for correspondents covering the beat; they said Nigeria, the fifth most populated nation in the world, was generating massive Data that needed to be protected from compromise.

Dr Olatunji said there are at least 500,000 data-generating bodies in Nigeria, each requiring Data Protection officers to guide against breaches enshrined in the Data Protection Bill.

Dr Olatunji said there was also a huge career potential in data protection as the data generated daily throughout the globe needed to be policed based on domestic and foreign legal parameters.

About 45 journalists attended the Workshop with a resolution to support the agency’s objective of sanitizing and sensitizing stakeholders on the unrelenting value of data protection.
