The Deputy National Chairman, North, of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Ambassador Umar Damagum, has assumed office as the Party’s Acting National Chairman.
Of this action, the Party’s substantive national chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, has stepped aside.
This followed a resolution of the PDP National Working Committee, which considered the Order of the Benue State High Court that ruled that Dr Iyorchia Ayu should stop parading himself as the Party’s national chairman.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba, says the decision was taken at an emergency meeting which carefully considered the Court Order in line with the Party’s constitution.

The PDP NWC charged all party leaders, critical stakeholders, members and supporters to remain calm and united.
Meanwhile, the Enugu East Senator and former Governor of Enugu state, Chimaroke Nnamani, has asked. Dr Iyorchia Ayu to resign as National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, without delay.
Senator Nnamani, in a statement, said that Dr. Ayu’s leadership had brought misfortune to the PDP.
Senator Nnamani was recently suspended by the Iyorchia Ayu-led national working committee of the PDP.
