Dr Olayemi Cardoso Assumes the Role of Acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) along with New Deputy Governors

Dr. Olayemi Cardoso officially assumed his role as the acting Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Friday, taking charge at the CBN headquarters in Abuja. This transition comes following the resignation of Mr Godwin Emefiele as the Governor of the CBN.
In addition to Dr. Cardoso, the Deputy-Governors-Designate have also taken up their duties in acting capacities following the formal resignations of Mr. Folashodun Shonubi, Mrs Aishah Ahmad, Mr Edward Lametek Adamu, and Dr Kingsley Obiora as Deputy Governors of the CBN.

The CBN made this announcement through a press statement on Friday, issued by the bank’s Director of Corporate Communications, Isa AbdulMumin.

Recalling President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of Cardoso and the Deputy Governors in acting capacities on September 15, 2023, these newly appointed officials were administered the oaths of office at a Friday morning ceremony at the CBN’s Head Office in Abuja.
The newly appointed Deputy Governors are:
- Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
- Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
- Mr. Philip Ikeazor
- Dr. Bala M. Bello
Dr. Olayemi Cardoso brings more than three decades of managerial experience to his role as an Economic and Development Policy Advisor and Financial Sector Leader. He has previously served as Citi Nigeria’s Chairman and the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget in Lagos State.
He holds a degree in managerial and administrative studies from Aston University, Birmingham, United Kingdom, and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School in the United States of America.
